World Cup Update

Once every four years we get this privilege, and here are our opinions (having watched every single game) with one game left in the 1st round.

Surprises: Australia (but then what Gus Hiddink team isn't?), Ecuador, Ghana & Switzerland

Disappointment's: Croatia, France, Poland, Germany, Serbia & Montenegro, Team USA

Scoreless with one 1st round game to play: Poland, Paraguay, Serbia Montenegro, Angola, Croatia

Overrated & Overhyped: Da "Boyz" from Brazil

Steady as She Goes Balance Award: Holland

Excelling: Spain & Argentina

Asian and North American squads are invited because they want to call it the "World" Cup.

Far better European squads, such as Turkey & defending European Champion Greece stayed home watching so perennial powerhouses such as Japan, Trinidad Tobago, Angola and team USA could humiliate themselves in front of billions.

With the exception of Spain's drive & Holland's balance, most of the European sides are thus far inconsistent and somewhat lackluster with the Germans uncharacteristically totally lacking in defense and spark.

The South American's do have the offensive spark with Argentina & Ecuador leading the way.

Pet Peeve: I really wish the amateurs calling the games in the US markets would jump off the official FIFA backed "Boyz" from Brazil bandwagon.

I'm sick of hearing about the "magic" and "mystical" talent that these Brazilians are supposed to have, but have been totally lacking since Pele's retirement. Those days are gone and these players couldn't hold or wash Pele's jockstrap.

As for this Brazilian squad, they appear to have been reading their press clippings and listening to the American announcers. They look predictable, older, fatter, slower, lacksidasical and very beatable.

Much like 94, 98 & 02, it will take an act of the thus far horrific and suspect FIFA officiating to wedge this overweight and overbearing "Cinderella" into her kickball slippers for an appearance at the final ball.

We envision Spain or Holland vs Argentina in the final. The Italians have an darkhorse outside shot, but they are far too distracted with a game fixing scandal at home.

More to come on that juicy tidbit and the ongoing FIFA officiating scandal later.
