Are You Ready For Some Football??

It is upon us, and once more into the breech, dear friends.... today the NFC, on the 'morrow the AFC.

NFC West

SF Mismanaged drafts have been no help here. With all the seats sold, the ownership has a commitment to the balance sheet, not winning, at best 6-10 and probably another wasted top five draft.

STL If QB Bulger stays healthy and a replacement for RB Faulk can be found perhaps the non existent D stays off the field longer. Alas, Linehan is a rookie headcoach, nuff said.

ARZ They got QB Warner, QB Leinart & RB James, but no amount of offensive talent can overcome a weak offensive line, lack of defense and just plain sloppy and undisciplined coaching.

SEA Added ex 49er LB Petersen, a big defensive plus. Lost all world left guard Hutchinson. Last year RB Alexander ran for 20 of his 28 NFL record touchdowns behind Hutch. New left guard Porkchop Womack aint no Hutch.

Bigger problem, since 2000 the loser of the Super Bowl has NOT made the playoffs the following year. Fortunately for the Squaks, they should win the Weak-Weak West by default, only to lay an egg in the playoffs.

NFC North

GB - Favre should have retired.. 2 years ago. The Packers are hanging around the cellar with rookie headcoach McCarthy and Kling-on Favre.

DET - Ditto for rookie headcoach Morinelli sans Favre.

MIN - Ditto for rookie headcoach Childress with QB Brad Johnson sans Culpepper.

CHI - Da Bears play a much tougher schedule and will not be able to sneak up on anyone. Much like Seattle, Chitown wins a weak division by default. If Grossman pans out, watch out, if not, a redux of last years early playoff hibernation.

NFC South

NO - At least rookie headcoach Payton gets QB Brees and RB Reggie Bush to compliment a decent offense. But, with no D in da big easy, in a tough division, playoffs Aint's in da vocabulary.

ATL - Even a weak schedule can't help offensive coordinator Gregg Knapp's unimaginative play calling. If QB Vick stays healthy and the running game produces, perhaps the weak D stays off the field and improves the Falcon's chances at a wildcard.

TB - Its QB Chris Simm's team this year. RB Cadillac Williams will produce, Grudens D will be stout and a tougher schedule will take its toll. Bucs don't win the division, but probably get a wildcard pass into the playoffs.

CAR - Should RB Deshaun Foster produce and the defensive front 7 stay healthy, a repeat of the Panther's recent Super Bowl run will ensue. A tougher schedule will not deter this team from winning the South and unlike last year, having a much easier path to the NFC Title Game.

NFC East

PHI - Perhaps a weaker schedule, healthy QB McNabb and RB Westbrook can keep the depleted and long in tooth D off the field. When this division was the NFC "Least" the Eagles might have won the division with this team, but not these days.

WAS - A much tougher schedule, predictable offensive play calling and aging QB Brunell's knees make life difficult for headcoach Gibbs this year. He shoulda stuck to stock cars.

NYGIA - A tougher schedule and teams pressuring young "happy" footed QB Manning, make life difficult for the Giants this year. If the offense can possess the ball long enough without turning it over, the Gmen have a shot at a wildcard.

DAL - Texa's team were two field goals and a few bounces from winning the division last year. Weak schedule and the addition of T.O. make all the difference. Parcell's Pokes win the East, probably host Carolina in the NFC Title game and could well be Super Bowl bound.

NFC Playoff Six Pack (in seeding order)

1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Carolina Panthers
3. Seattle Seahawks
4. Chicago Bears
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6. Atlanta Falcons or NY Giants
