Soaring? Sept Durable Orders +7.8% vs prior -0.1% Full Report

Inside the number: The largest jump in 6 years, but not so fast Joe... the jump came on 187% increase in aircraft orders booked for Boeing.

Good news: Ex transportation new orders +0.1%, the 1st increase in 3 months. Core capital equipment orders +1.1%, but shipments down -2.1%.

Bad news: Motor vehicle orders -6.1%, shipments of durable goods -2.8%, inventories +1% the 8th increase in 9 months.

Rising? Sept. New Home Sales +5.3% to 1.075M

Inside the number: Good news?? Inventories of unsold homes -1.9% to 557K, but, inventories +14.4% in the past year. The number of unsold completed homes at a record 157K, up 47% in the past year.

Bad news: June, July & Aug. sales numbers were revised down due to cancelled contracts. New home sales -14.2% YOY and -16.5% YTD.

Worse news: Median sales prices -9.7% in the past year to $217K, the lowest price in two years. The largest percentage decline in median prices in 36 years.

In the past year, median prices for existing single family homes -2.5%, the largest decline ever recorded.
