World Cup 2010 Update

To date in the group stage...

Suprises: Paraguay, Switzerland, Denmark, South Korea, Japan.

On the bubble: USA (robbed on lame call by Mali official), South Korea, Greece, Ghana, Serbia, Denmark, Japan.

In trouble: Italy, England, France, Spain (need to rebound with two victories to qualify)

Disappointments: Spain (lost first game, losing the 1st game: only 8% of teams have ever advanced and none has ever won the cup.)

Serbia (can't seem to NOT have a man sent off for a stupid foul and give up a penalty kick on a hand ball in the box, both games)

Italy (see defending champions below)

Defending Champions or No Country For Old Men

The bulk are 30 to 37 years old and missing Pirlo injured, Camoranesi partially injured and the junkyard dog Gattuso, on the bench...

These players formed the middle field or center hub, the Italians are lost without their "hub" for distribution.

If Italy do not wake up and win their group, they face Netherlands and a quick exit from the tournament.

Soft and Overrated: Brazil

As in the last cup, the South Americans are soccers version of showtime, all glitz, no defense.

They will shine early against the crippled sisters of the elderly.

But when they come up against a stout defense in the knockout round, its good night and good bye.

Prognostication: In the knockout round, Portugal, Germany, Argentina and Serbia play up to potential...

while Netherlands, Italy, Brazil & Spain form the bracket of death.

From which Netherlands will emerge to play a final redux of 1974 vs Germany or 1978 vs Argentina.

But this time, the Dutch "buffelen" finally hoist the Cup.
