2014 World Cup - Quarterfinals - France vs Germany

France 0 vs Germany 1 -  "Football is a simple game, 22 men chase as ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win."  -  English Striker Gary Lineker, and there you have it.

In what turned out to be a drab affair, Joachim Lowe mixed it up to get more movement and interplay by starting defender Schweinsteiger and striker Klose, while Didier Deschamp lost his first WC game as a player or coach.

France were content to cocoon until at 13', Kroos clipped a freekick into the area and fullback Hummels leap above the French defender Varane to guide a header into the net from 10 yards.

A nicely placed delivery and excellent finish by Hummels, who at arms distance fended off defender Varane.

Les Blues attempted to crank it up, but never managed to get into 5th gear as the Germans were setting the backline high and uncharacteristically controlling midfield against them.

France never really mustered up enough and during the last 10 minutes, lethargically went out without a whimper.

German goalie Neuer kept Les Blues out of the net all day, swatting away a last gasp attempt from Benzema at 92'.

Germany deservedly move on to face the winner of Brazil/Columbia.
