2014 NFL Predictions Week 16 Update

AFC
EAST

NE -  "The most resourceful coach in the NFL." Bunco loss to Gals clinched #1 seed for Pats. Now the curse of three weeks till their next real game.

NORTH

PIT - "A load of unrealized potential here, late run could get it done. A work in progress with home losses to TB and NO? Really?"   Clinched, home win vs Ben-gals gets #3 seed, loss gets #5 seed.

CIN - "Tougher schedule and bungling Marvin Lewis don't help. With Marvin Lewis they could still wind up having to buy tickets to make the playoffs."  Clinched, win at Steelers gets #3 seed, and Bunco loss gets #2 seed, loss gets #5 seed.

BAL - "Limping along and could back into playoffs."  Need home win vs Browns and Bolts to lose for #6 seed.

SOUTH

IND - "Tougher schedule this year, need to find some D to go deeper in playoffs. Default div. winner, probable 1 and done." Clinched #4 seed, taking the week off, then one and done.

HOU - "One bad year = + Clowney, great talent base, weak schedule rebound. Fitzpatrick? Meh, imagine what they could do with the Lion's backup QB?"  Need  home win vs Jags with Bolts and Ravens losses to get #6 seed. Nah.

WEST

DEN - "Rebound from SB humiliation?" If Ben-gals win, Clinched, Buncos must win vs Raiders to retain #2 seed, loss drops them to #3 seed.

SD - "Need to win out and get help, otherwise odd man out in the West." Win at KC gets #6 seed.

KC - "Lost to da Raiders, that says it all."  Win vs Bolts with Ravens and Texans losses gets #6 seed.  Not likely.

NFC
LEAST

DAL - "Plenty of Rom-O, if they find any D in Dallas. Probable div winner, but still a one and done."  Clinched #3 seed, win at Skins and SEA home loss (LOL) gets #2 seed, so probably taking a week off.

PHI - "Kelly's heroes have a lot of O, but no D. Just the remnants of the dog killers dynasty. Probable spectator this playoff season."  Teams that sign Vick (see the Jets!) get what they deserve, even after he's gone. Lost to Skins, buh-bye.

NORTH

GB - "Mr. Rodgers said, R-E-L-A-X, this is my neighborhood. Should cruise to #2 or #1 seed, will be tough at home." Clinched, must win at home vs Lions to get #2 seed, loss gets #6 seed.

DET - "So deep in talent, they found D, still stuck on Stafford. Win at Chitown and loss in frozen tundra gets #6 seed."  Clinched, frozen tundra win gets #2 seed, loss gets #6 seed.

SOUTH

ATL - "Weak schedule rebound, alot of O, with a little D they could make a run."  Lose and watch, must win at home vs Panthers to get #4 seed, a sub .500 one and done.

CAR - "Tougher schedule, no surprises. They have D, but 1 dimensional O needs new playbook."  Lose and watch, must win at Falcons to get #4 seed,  a sub .500 one and done.

BEST

SEA - "As defending SB champs, every week they are opponents SB.  Its tough to repeat. They jelled at just the right time." Have served notice, will lock up #1 seed with home win vs Rams.  Good luck beating these Beasts on any field.

ARZ - "Last year Arians 10-6 group finished outside, not this year." Clinched, a probable #5 seed. Could move up to #2 with Squawks loss (LOL).

Playoff Six Packs

Preseason SD, NE, CIN, IND, DEN, BAL
Week 16    NE, DEN, CIN, IND, PIT, SD

NFC
Preseason SEA, GB, DAL, CAR, SF, ARZ
Week 16    SEA, GB, DAL, ATL, ARZ, DET

In the AFC: "Outside of a repeat title game with NE & DEN, the other contenders -  IND, KC, PIT, CIN, HOU, BAL, SD all have various deficiencies which will become problematic in the playoffs."  DEN @ NE for AFC Title.

In the NFC: "Although GB's QB Rodgers is hot, their inability to defend the run (#29 rush D), could be problematic... if somebody doesn't make a statement by running the remainder of the table..."   D
efending SB champion Seattle ran the table 8-1.  Last five games defensive points allowed Niners 3, 7, Zona 3, 6, Philly 7, (1 TD on punt block). GB, DAL or DET @ SEA for NFC Title.

Super Bowl outlook: "The winner of the NFC Best will probably win SB XLIX."  Seattle reminds me of the 72-75 Dolphins with Bob Griese at QB, nothing fancy, just taking care of business with fundamental mistake free football, as a solid ground game and defense wins championships.  IMO, it doesn't matter who the Squawks play in ARZ, if your opponent can't score, they can't win.

We'll check back prior to Wild Card weekend with ATS predictions.
