Siberia, Kazakhstan & Japan - H5N1 Captain Trips?
H5N1 poultry deaths are now spreading throughout Siberia (Novosibirsk, Omsk and Altai regions), Kazakhstan & Japan (H5N2).
Health authorities in neighboring provinces of Russia and Kazakhstan set about slaughtering poultry yesterday amid signs that the deadly bird flu virus was steadily spreading westwards from China, officials said.
All domestic birds in a western Siberian region will be slaughtered today. Just over the border in Kazakhstan, the cull has been underway for days, and a bird transport ban has been imposed on the affected areas. Kazakhstan has hospitalized one human, but H5N1 has not been confirmed.
