World Cup 2010 Finale

Forget the spineless Octopus being 6 for 6...

Group Play
: We picked 12 of the 16 teams to qualify.

Knockout 1st Round: 5 of 8

The Quarterfinals: 4 of 4

Semifinals... 2 of 2

We are now 11-3 in the knockout round and 11-1 in the last 12 games.

Prior to the Cup we mentioned to a Dutch friend that this would be a final redux of 74 Netherlands v Germany or...

a final of former bridesmaids who had never won... well isn't this just Cheeky...

Netherlands v Spain

The Oranje Buffelen have been stout on the back line, controlling at mid field, and able to score when necessary, especially from set pieces and long distance shots.

Spain have done what is necessary to grind out victories, with a stout back line and controlling mid field.

Too much time has been wasted by the Spaniards dribbling about in or near the box, rather than taking shots.

This will be Spain's undoing v the Netherlands. The Dutch will not sit back in a shell as the Deutsche did.

Rather than sit back and allow the Spanish to dictate the pace of the game, the Oranje will play their own style of game.

Watch as the both teams equally control the ball, Spain will waste opportunities dribbling about...

but the Dutch will score from long distance shots and set pieces.

The Netherlands deservedly win 2-1 in an exciting match worthy of being called "the beautiful game".

We stick to our prognostication from our June 20th post: "this time, the Dutch "buffelen" finally hoist the Cup".
