2014 World Cup - Brazil's New Hero

We opined in 2010, 2006 and this years predictions about Brazil being FIFA's favorite sons, and the double standard officiating in their matches.

After witnessing the opener, can't say we didn't tell you so.  It is upon us again, back into the breech... Brazil has a new hero, and its not Neymar, its Nishimura.

Notes from the opening match awarded by the officials to Brazil 3-1 over Croatia.

11' - Brazil's Marcelo scores an own goal - OOPS! Croatia 1 - Brazil 0.

Shortly thereafter, Brazilian Neymar elbows Modric in the throat sending him to the turf. This flagrant foul deserved a red card expulsion. Not so fast, Japanese official Nishimura can't expel Brazil's golden boy this early, so he issues a slap on the wrist yellow card booking.

71' - Having drawn even 1-1 at 29' Brazil are having trouble with the feisty Croats. Brazilian Fred is marked in the box, and commits an obvious flop, untouched. Millions witnessed a clear dive deserving of a red card expulsion. Not so fast, Nishimura, pulls a stinking "homer" that used to famous during Don King boxing matches, and awards a penalty kick to Brazil, resulting in a 2-1 score.

81' - As Croatia continued to trouble the Brazilian rearguard, Olic jumped, his hands clearly by his sides, with Cesar, and clearly headed the ball fairly. The challenge kept the ball out of the Brazil goalkeeper's grasp before the ball ended up in the back of the net. A spectacular play resulting in Croatia equalizing at 2-2. Not so fast, Nishimura blew his whistle for what he believed to be Olic's foul on Cesar, resulting in the reversal of a legitimate and well played goal for Croatia.

The game video clearly demonstrates that either Nishimura was completely out of his depth, or that the official's cannot go against the mandate that at ALL costs, FIFA's favorite son's must win this cup at home, i.e. the WWF or Don King fix is in.

Begging the questions: How could such a sub standard referee be put in charge of such an important game? When will Blatter and Platini realize that the Brazilian double standard is blatant and the public really isn't that stupid?

Croatia played well and deserved a 2-1 victory, as observed by the game announcers, unfortunately they were playing against Brazil and the officials. FIFA's legitimacy have been reduced to WWF stature for quite some time now and this latest "fix" won't help matters any.

I am not alone in this factual observation as the internet and sports press are abuzz with negative reports condemning the opening matches legitimacy and result.

FIFA's favorite son's might as well send everyone home and hoist the trophy now, as we would be shocked if the end result of this "tournament" is anything but.
