American Air Net Loss Fueled By 48% Jet Fuel Jump

AMR the parent company of American Airlines

reported a net loss of $328 million for Q108 vs net profit of $81 million for Q107 on increased revenues +5%.

The company paid $665 million more for fuel in Q108 than it would have paid at prevailing prices from the prior-year period.

AMR paid $2.74 per gallon for jet fuel in Q1 compared to $1.85 a gallon in Q107, a 48% increase.
