Super Bowl XLIII
BCS Title & NFL Playoffs: we crawl to 6-5 ATS & 7-4 SU with our conference championship picks.
Over/Under (sans BCS); we are 5-4-1 against the spread.
As previously stated here on 01/03/09 and four weeks prior to seasons end in person:
For a dark horse Super Bowl, we sense a Pennsylvania Turnpike or Beltway Bowl in the making. Philly vs Pittsburgh or Philly vs Baltimore.
NOT!!! as the Cards rain on our parade. These Zona Cards are responsible for 3 of our mistakes.
Not picking against them would put us at 9-2 ATS & 10-1 Straight up... but we err, and to err is human, but will we err again?
Last week, after porking the NFC's best defense 24-6 at half,
the Zona Cards managed ONE 2nd half scoring drive with under 4 minutes to go; for 8 pts. (Similar to their 6 2nd half pts vs CAR.)
Said drive was the first scoring drive allowed in the 2nd half of three playoff games by the Philly Cheese Steak defense.
We nailed down PHI +13.5 at the half; with a side wager to win outright at 7 to 1. The straight up side wager went bye bye birdie with the final scoring drive...
but the half time +13.5 paid nicely as PHI outscored the Cards 19 to 8 to lose by 7; 32-25; while leaving 5 on the table (missed FG; two failed PAT's).
Steeltown did us right winning straight up, covering and going over. Bad weather and strong defenses not withstanding; both Pittsburgh games have gone over.
Could good FLA weather, a neutral site and those pesky Cards conspire to keep the Steelers from covering?
The Cards jumped all over both CAR & PHI in the 1st half, then took a dirt nap in both games as their ground game failed them in the 2nd halves.
Will the Cards jump on the Steelers as San Diego did on their opening drive? After stifling ATL; CAR & PHI running... Can Zona stop the Steeler ground game?
The Steelers were held to 52 yds rushing by the NFL's #2 defense. What will they do vs THE WORST DEFENSE IN SUPER BOWL history?
As the game progresses will they move the ball & score at will; while stopping the run?
This would force some Warner turnovers and allow for some late 2nd half garbage time points.
If both teams follow their patterns, its close at the half, just in time for the Boss.
Our Super Bowl XLIII prediction, the desert Cinderella gets jilted; as the city on three rivers wins #6 going away in the 2nd half:
ARI 24 - PIT 40(-6.5) OVER 46.5
Possible parlay: PIT to WIN & OVER. Interesting side bets? ARZ +3 or under 23.5 in the 1st half.
Over/Under (sans BCS); we are 5-4-1 against the spread.
