One Polar Ice Cap - Neat Please?
Once again, not to be mistaken for Tuesday's With Morrie, it's Tuesdays With Trump...
Following up on our previous global warming trend, climate change discussions... last time out That Map Is Melting?, NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Surface Temperature Analysis Maps indicated clearly demonstrable increases in global surface temperature anomaly and trend.
Polar Ice Cap, Polar Bear, North Pole, Artic Circle, can be shaken or stirred with ice and then strained and served without ice in a stemmed glass.
That is, all can be served straight up, as opposed to a drink served "neat" – a single, unmixed liquor served without being chilled and without any water, ice, or other mixer. So it would seem our title has an inherent conflict in nature. Apropos for tonight's subject matter, we think.

On October 12th, POTUS nominated Kathleen Hartnett White to the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality, where she will serve as a member of the president’s in-house environmental policy shop and help coordinate energy initiatives between the White House, Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy. She is designated to lead the council after being confirmed by the Senate.

First, a 30 second video based upon the same NASA GISS data, which graphically illustrates Earth’s long-term warming trend, showing temperature changes from 1880 to 2015 as a rolling five-year average. Orange colors represent temperatures that are warmer than the 1951-80 baseline average, and blues represent temperatures cooler than the baseline.
Again, that video spanning 135 years, ends in 2015 which was a record shattering year. Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 warmest years on record occurring since 2001. 2016 and 2017 to date were even hotter.
One can reasonably conclude, it's been getting warmer beyond the norm everyday, week, month, year, decade and century. Moving West...
A disturbing 90 second video which shows the loss of sea ice in the Arctic between September 1984 and September 2016.
In that time span, the amount of ice five years or older throughout the Arctic sea ice cap during its yearly minimum extent, dropped from 1.86 million square kilometers to 110,000 square kilometers, according to NASA. (NASA Earth Observatory)
Generally, ice grows more in winter than it melts in summer, and as ice gets older it gets thicker. This makes the age of the ice a good measure for thickness. Losing 95% of the +5 year old or thicker ice, in a short span of 32 years, tells one that temperatures are rising, as the ice is melting more in both summer and winter.
At the end of the day, the above clearly demonstrates that as opposed to what Ms. White stated above, NASA's sophisticated observations are anything but at odds with the UN. Despite the difference between NASA data and this POTUS nominee's statements, being nothing less than gracious hosts, we will let Ms. White have the last word.

No genuine empirical science is ever settled. Science begins with a theory that must then be validated by observational measurements.
