Of Ethanol, Methane, CNG & NGV's

If you would like to pay $1 a gallon for your vehicle's fuel and give OPEC and their industrial complex backed terrorists the middle finger salute, read on...

The government says they want oil independence and a cleaner environment. But what they DO and what they SAY are two different things.

There is a CARTEL in the US that is suppressing the use of CNG (compressed natural gas) and NGV's (natural gas vehicles). Why?

The ubiquitous THEY; DON'T want CNG or NGV's interfering with their gasoline, E85 corn Ethanol or hybrid vehicle prices and profits.

In addition, the government does not want CNG reducing tax revenues based on the volume sales of other inefficient non "green" methods.

How common is CNG??

CNG is composed primarily of METHANE (CH4). Natural METHANE is abundantly found in oil fields and natural gas fields, and in coal beds (as coalbed methane).

When methane rich gases are produced by the anaerobic decay of non-fossil organic material, these are referred to as biogas.

Sources of biogas include swamps, marshes, and landfills , as well as sewage sludge and manure by way of anaerobic digesters.

Biogas is usually produced using agricultural waste materials, such as otherwise unusable parts of plants and manure.

Biogas can also be produced by separating organic materials from waste that otherwise goes to landfills.

Landfill gas is created from the decomposition of waste in landfills and can be used for generating electricity.

Anaerobic lagoons produce biogas from manure or sewage sludge, while biogas reactors can be used for manure or plant parts.

Aside from the abundance of other sources...Enormous quantities of methane can be obtained from methane hydrate, found under sediments in the oceans.

There is more methane hydrate waiting under the floor of the ocean than the total amount of crude oil: discovered, pumped, used and known in the history of man.

The U.S. Geological Survey conservatively estimates that energy contained in the world’s methane hydrates...

is twice the energy contained in all known fossil fuels on earth, i.e., twice that in all the world’s estimated natural gas, petroleum and coal combined.

What about the intrastructure to deliver it?

Its already in place... Methane based CNG is the same gas that is used in homes for water heaters, stoves, ovens, ranges, clothes dryers, heating and air conditioning.

How Green are CNG or NGV's?

METHANE based CNG burns almost perfectly clean, so NGV's burn cleaner than Hybrids.

They burn so clean, that the engines last 3X as long due to the lack of carbon or particulates.

If 10 billion gallons of gasoline was all displaced by biomethane, it is estimated that this would reduce greenhouse gases by the equivalent of 500 million metric tons of CO2 per year.

or removing the emissions equivalent to 90 million light duty gasoline vehicles off the road.

Are CNG or NGV's popular elsewhere?

There are 5 million natural gas vehicles (NGVs) worldwide.

As of 2005, the countries with the largest number of natural gas vehicles were Argentina, Brazil, Pakistan, Italy, India and Bangladesh.

Argentina is the world’s leader with over 1.5 million NGVs (20% of all Argentine vehicles).

Brazil, which is known as the world’s sugar ethanol leader, has over 1 million NGVs on its roads.

Pakistan has over 1 million. China, India, Iran, and Germany are just a few other fast growing NGV markets.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the U.S. has only about 130,000 NGVs on the road.

Adding insult to injury... even the MIDDLE EAST has made a commitment to reach 1 Million NGV's by 2010 to be less dependent on THEIR OWN OIL.

Perhaps they already know the IDIOTS who will STILL be buying their oil?

Summary... methane based CNG is naturally abudant, its renewable and can be man made in sufficient quantity to supply most of our electrical and vehicular energy needs.

CNG is a green or environment friendly, tested and proven technology with the infrastructure for mass distribution already in place.

Other countries see the light and are taking advantage, why aren't we?

The CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) market has 2 large niches or gaps,

#1. Conversion kits for a multitude of existing vehicles.

Instead of making it EASY and CHEAP to certify conversion kits for all vehicles on the road...

and encouraging the conversion of existing gasoline vehicles to dual fuel CNG vehicles....

The Federal Government makes the EPA certification for a kit on a specific vehicle cost $250K...

so NOBODY develops anything except for large government (GSA or municipal transit districts) or corporate vehicle fleet sales (UPS, FedEx or US Postal).

Public Stations... Very few PUBLIC CNG stations exist, the ones that do exist are owned by large GAS companies who raise the prices to stay with gasoline prices.

The difference between $2.40 per GGE (gasoline gallon equivalent) and $3 unleaded does not justify the cost of conversion.

For these reasons, many people don't have a choice (no existing kit) and very few people...

want to spend $3K to 8K just to covert an existing vehicle (one that has a qualified fleet vehicle kit) to dual fuel.

Its interesting that the pump price includes a .80 to $1.20 per gallon pressurized pumping charge.

In other words, the true price at public pumps should be around $1.20 to $1.60.

Don't worry the price story gets better...

#2. Inexpensive VRA (Vehical Refuelling Appliance) for individuals to refuel at home.

HONDA indirectly owns the only VRA in our market, PHILL by FUELMAKER from Toronto (Canada).

FuelMaker will only ship to their certified installer. The cost to install with a certified installer $700 to $1500.

This includes pulling the necessary building department permits and labor.

The actual cost of installation is under $500 and can be performed by any qualified HVAC, electrician or plumber.

Originally the Phill was priced at $2000, and FuelMaker said the price would go down to $1000 within 2 years.

Due to supression of market demand and the devaluation of the dollar vs Canadian loonie... the cost of the Phill is now $4200.

With no competition, little demand, and further dollar debauchery, the price can only go up.

The public need... Many municipalities feign ignorance or fear in an effort to further suppress the home refuelling market.

Obtuse requirements (only outdoor installations), exhorbitant permit or inspection fees and restrictions are being put into place in many communities.

Funny thing is, a VRA is less dangerous to install, own and operate than an air conditioner, gas stove or gas water heater.

Heres the real rub, most home gas rates are publically regulated. The cost to pump your own gas from your home, ranges between .80 and 1.20 per gallon.

The difference between $1 and current $3 per gallon gasoline prices (soon to be $4 or $5), makes the CNG and NGV proposition economically viable for the public.

The commericial need...

In his 2007 State of the Union address, President Bush called for the use of 35 billion gallons of renewable and alternative fuels in the place of petroleum in America’s transportation sector by 2017.

America’s economy is dependent on our commercial fleets, and those fleets are currently dependent on the availability of affordable diesel fuel.

With conversion to dual fuel CNG, existing diesel fleets can run off a 90% CNG, 10% diesel mixture, and burn much cleaner.

With the proper government support, by 2017, domestic CNG production from biomethane sources could easily supply 10 billion gallons per year, which is almost 33% of the President’s goal.

While significant, this amount of fuel would represent only 6.2% of the natural gas used in America last year.

In other words, the whole 35 Billion gallons could be supplied by CNG, rather than biodiesel or ethanol.

Limited NGV production...

FORD, GM & DODGE started limited production of dual fuel CNG and dedicated CNG vehicles circa 1998.

They ceased production in 2006 to encourage their HYBRID and E85 CORN ETHANOL vehicle sales.

Only Honda America produces the CNG Civic SX, at the rate of only 1100 per year.

Now we have complicated HYBRIDS and E85 Dual Fuel which both pollute far more than CNG based NGV's.

Ethanol, The Grand Misallocation...

CORN ETHANOL, rather than SUGAR ETHANOL requires many hectares of land to grow. So, the PRICE of FOOD has inflated through rising grain and feed prices.

With the misallocation of resources necessary for CORN ETHANOL, and the fact that we are alreday in a massive DROUGHT due to changing global and microclimates...

and the fact that, to produce 1 gallon of ETHANOL requires 17 gallons of water...

in the not too distant future, the price of gasoline will seem trivial compared to the price of potable water.

Once again, big oil, big business and government working hand to hand to protect their interests and screw the public and environment royally.

Actions and Deeds, not words...

Federal, State, County & City governments need to implement policies and programs to significantly encourage the growth of methane based CNG & NGV's.

These include:

Extending and expanding financial incentives and eliminating legal barriers:

for the development, purchase and use of NGVs, and for the construction of public NGV fueling stations,

and for the development, purchase and installation of home based VRA's for individual NGV's.

Raising the priority of NGVs and CNG in the programs of federal agencies including DOE, EPA and FTA, amongst others.

Elimination of the $250K EPA compliance of certification fee for CNG dual fuel conversion kits.

Repealing or superceding any conflicting state or local building codes, requirements and vehicular emissions system modification laws (read California).

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals.

Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not.

You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus.
