2014 World Cup Semi - Brazil vs Germany

Germany 7 vs Brazil 1 - "You may see the 3 goal barrier cracked in this game, and it might not be a happy ending for host nation...

We see a game with shades of Germany's opening match vs Portugal...   I can see the Brazilian backline dancing to Beethoven's 5th symphony."

Three words come to mind, domination, humiliation and annihilation as all of the above came to pass.

Brazil was literally dumped out of this Cup, and did their backline ever Samba to the 5th, oh boy.

Two things were finally exposed, Brazil's weak defense and their team as a one trick pony (Neymar).

Scolari subbed Dante for Silva and Bernard for Neymar.  Would there have been a difference had the latter two played?

Absolutely, bearing in mind that this game could have easily wound up 9-1, the final result with a full deck would have only been 5 or 4 goals to 1.

At 8', from the edge of the box Khedira slams a half volley seemingly destined to make it 1-0, which hits the best Brazilian defender on the day (German midfielder Kroos) square in the back.

1-0 at 10', with their shoes seemingly trapped in wet cement, the Brazilain backline watches in abject horror...

as a corner sails overhead to arrive 6 yds out from the left post, as an unmarked Muller side foots it home for first blood.

2-0 at 22', as the Brazilian's have employed a matador defense. On a ball crossing from the right, Fernandinho (should change his name to Fumbles) demonstrates how NOT to clear a ball.

Kroos cheerfully accepts the gift and squares it to a wide open and unchallenged Klose, who from 6 yds out bangs it off the goalie, and makes a tidy deposit of the rebound.

3 min later at 25', 3-0 as the Brazilians apparently suffer paralysis from reading their own press clippings and the flood gates of hell are opened wide.

Muller rips down the right side and exposes Marcelo's (should change his name to Concreto) concrete shoes...

a beautifully placed cross to the edge of the penalty area is volleyed home by Kroos into the bottom left hand corner.

Rather than chant "take me out to the ballgame", the partisan crowd who are in utter disbelief at what they are witnessing, start chanting "please wake me up when its all over."

1 min later at 26', no really, 4-0, as a sloppy Fernandinho (aka Fumbles) was easily dispossessed 30 yds out, Khedira served up a tee ball for Kroos to bang into an empty net from 10 yds out.

It was worse than watching someone steal candy from a baby as many in the partisan crowd are now openly weeping.

3 min later at 29', really, 5-0 in under 30 minutes, 12 yds out from the left side,  Khedira slaps home Germany's 4th goal in 6 minutes. The weeping has turned to shrieking.

At 69' TOUCHDOWN!  sub Schurrle makes it 6-0 with a tap in from 12 yds out.

At 78' Marcelo (aka Concreto) is dancing in his Portland shoes again, as the Germans go streaking by him on the left side...

from 8 yds out at the edge of the box, Schurrle sends a left footed rocket which skids off the goal post roof down into the back of the net.

The point after is good, and with the score 7-0, the partisan crowd stand and applaud the Germans as Christ the Redeemer can be seen below muttering, "they shoot horses, don't they?"
At 89' Osil is clean through on goal and shoots a foot wide, missing 8 or 9-0.

At 90' The shock of Osil's miscalculation causes a lapse in German concentration, earning a consolation goal from Oscar.

Mercifully, the crowd can now be awoken as the Hosts have been put out of their and our collective misery.

Brazil had arrived at this point in the Cup with much assistance. To FIFA's credit, today there would be none whatsoever and the end result reflected that.

Die Alder move on to face the winner or Argentina vs The Netherlands.
