The Shock Doctrine 5: The Carpetbaggers

“Emergency Management” in Detroit is just another term for “hostile corporate takeover” whose major targets are:
•    The tens of billions of dollars in value represented by the city’s huge water systems infrastructure, which supplies 40% of Michigan, and sits on 21% of the surface fresh water supply of the world.
•    The billions of dollars in Detroit property that could be gentrified and developed once the cronies of the real estate vultures have pushed out its African-American residents.
•    An art museum with a collection valued at billions of dollars.
•  The hundreds of billions of invested capital that are promised to the city pension plans.

Other counties and cities preceded Detroit into bankruptcy such as Boise County, Stockton, Mammoth Lake, San Bernardino, Jefferson County, Decatur, Harrisburg and Colonial Fall.

Detroit was no more “bankrupt” than many American cities suffering post-2008 loss of their real estate tax base, a crisis caused directly by Wall Street and the very same banks now promoting Detroit’s bankruptcy.

The Nattering One muses... As they did in Birmingham and New Orleans, the very financial institutions that got bailed out by the public have "manufactured" a fiscal crisis and are demanding payment in Detroit.

In all three cases, the majority of the populace was minority, the carpetbaggers put the "squeeze" on, and large amounts of public wealth were transferred into private hands.

The carpetbaggers MO is always the same, there's always a crisis or "war on" against the mass "distraction du jour", fiscal solvency, war on drugs, war on terrorism, etc.

The "wars" always justify the sacrifice of civil liberties for the "greater good", while handing countless trillions to the military-industrial complex to defend against the "evil doers".

The management "by crisis" always justifies the forfeiture of countless billions in public assets, which the carpetbaggers profiteer from.

In the process the public debt usually balloons, and the debt burdens the masses, forcing cutbacks, reduced services and an overall declining standard of living for John Q. Public.  It's getting better all the time, isn't it?

It appears that feeding on the carcase's of overseas victims in: Iran, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, the Falklands, Bolivia, Poland, China, South Africa, Russia, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Yugoslavia, Greece, Palestine, Lebanon and Israel isn't enough for these corporate carpetbaggers.

Much like the Bush Administrations fabrication of WMD's, New Orleans, Birmingham's and Detroit's "Weapons of Mass Distraction” were contrived to exercise domestic cannibal capitalism, and effectively bring the "shock doctrine" home to US soil.

Predatory lending practices (read sub-prime, IMF, World Bank), fraudulent foreclosures (read MERS), illegal seizure of private assets, privatization of public assets and "seizure" of pension capital.

Verily, with over 90,000 municipal pension funds, and $16.5163 TRILLION in defined benefit & contribution pension funds, to sink their fangs into, THIS IS the new market opportunity for the carpetbaggers.

All perpetrated by banking, insurance and financial institutions, aided by politicians, federal, state, county, city officials, lawyers and judges.

Through coordinated gridlock & mismanagement, subsequent management by crisis, forms of "martial law", and under administrative procedure, color of law/authority...

in one way, shape or form, the executive, legislative and judicial branches of federal, state, county and city governments have all been involved.

Due to the revolving door between executive, legislative and judicial branches, it appears that "checks and balances" no longer exist to protect the American public from its own government.

Questions: Isn't this a form of racketeering? Is this opportunism and exploitation? Has our government devolved into a corporate oligarchy run amok?  Domestic terrorism? Treason?

Tonight's offering submitted for your approval, in the Naybob Zone...

Regardless of the answers to the above, or any conclusions you may reach, in your fat, happy, complacent, distracted and comfortably numb state, you have to ask yourself...

Is your town, city, county, state or entire country, the next "our town"?  And what are you willing to do to defend our town, our rights, our freedom and our future from these cannibalistic corporate Carpetbaggers?

A big tip-o-the-hat and shout out to Ben Ptashnik and Victoria Collier at The Progressive and Diane Bukowski at Voice of Detroit, recommended reading below.

Please do PASS IT ON before its too late for your town. More to come in Part 6.
