I picked American Pharoah to WIN, he paid 3.80 to WIN.
My sleeper Divining Rod: the PLACE bet failed, but he paid 5.20 on my SHOW bet.
My flyers on the unknown Tale of Verve paid much better..
I bet him at $19 to place; and at 8.80 to show.
Icing on the cake, 4 of my 5 exacta tickets with American Pharoah to win failed.
The $2 exacta with Tale of Verve to place paid at $124.40.
The rain and slop killed Dortmund and Firing Line, however, on a sloppy track, American Pharoah ran the opening 3/4 mile of the Preakness in 1:11.42 - faster than Affirmed in 1978 (1:11.8 on a fast track).
I am replacing "could" with "will" and locking in American Pharoah to win the Triple Crown.
