Truth And Consequences
Over at our latest SA missive - In Time? - SLJones commented: "Never thought this would come up ... sir, a large portion of your article is not metaphorical science fiction, but ACTUAL science fiction."
The Nattering one muses... Jonesy, thank you for the compliment and a really good chuckle. You actually reminded me of something, a long time ago in a place far, far away, that was lost in my "daze of Ute".
"Sir, life is about terms. What kind of terms would it take to get you into this car, today? Lets come to terms, so we can get you into that car and motoring down the road, a happy man. Terms are everything, sir. Step right this way..." and the young buck closer slams the door shut on another one, as they drive off the lot.
Let's maintain the illusion, take the blue pill first.... I for one, would feel much better knowing that $1.3T in student loans and $920B in revolving credit all racked up at parabolic rates in the last few years, could be actual science fiction. Down that rabbit hole, no one would pay fictitious debts, and nobody would bother collecting on them either, happy ending.
Meanwhile, after taking the red pill, back in the real world, those debts are anything but fictitious. Most people will attempt to pay those debts, if they can. If they can't, there is truth and consequences. Later in his "salad daze" the closer became repo man, then moved into collections (hard money) and then REO amongst other things.
There is just nothing like shaking a guy upside down and pogo sticking him, in front of his old lady, until all his cash falls out and she finally hands over the coffee can. Better yet, garnishing someone's wages or meeting the sheriff at the property to evict a family and pad lock them out of their own home.
The great crisis caused a boat load of the three D's (displacement, divorce and death). Far too many people had their live's turned upside down, were viciously shaken and pogo sticked until every last penny came out of them, and more. There's nothing like having to dump the family pets off at a humane shelter or taking them to "live on a farm". Better yet, wondering where the next meal or night of shelter is coming from.
Unfortunately, after the red pill, down this rabbit hole, in the real world, there is no fiction where the rubber meets the road and the "terms" of mortgaging ones future come into play. Bottom line, life is all about choices, timing and terms.
At some point(s) IN TIME unbeknownst, the musical chairs or merry-go-round of revolving credit debt rolling at ZERO rate for 18 months, stops. Ride over and amongst other things, time for truth and consequences, TBD.
Thanks again for reminding me of those daze of yore. Why I remember taking this woman in a red dress for a test drive in a red SS396 convertible, which had a decent back seat, and when the top came down, well... ah but not today, I'm late for my nap. Having forgotten more than many know, ain't easy.
