NFL 2016 Playoffs Divisional Results

This week rather than Tuesdays with Trump...

Following up on our Divisional projections, all match up stats in Yards Per Attempt, provided by Pro Football Reference.  All times Eastern. Last week...

#3 SEA Seahawks 20 @ #2 ATL Falcons 36

Spread ATL -4.5 OU 51.5 - our pick ATL -4.5 ATS and SU.  ATS 3-2; SU 4-1

SEA migrating South to a strange nest will be a test. Week 6 - ATL WR Julio Jones torched the Squawk secondary 7-139yds. TOP and TOM will be the key to this matchup. ATL - they must air it out.

TOP ATL 33 SEA 27 min.; TOM ATL +2; end of story?  Nope. The Falcons held their ground 101 vs 99 yds and dominated the Squawks in the air 323 vs 208 yds.  Private Ryan spread the ball amongst 8 receivers, Jones 6 for 67 yds.

The dirty birds are red hot, seemingly unstoppable on offense, and their defense seems to be jelling at the right time.  One more game under the Georgia Dome vs Mr. Rodgers.

#4 HOU Texans 16 @ #1 NE Patriots  34

Spread NE -15.5 OU 44.5 - our pick NE -15.5 ATS and SU. ATS 4-2; SU 5-1

(vs Raiders) The Texan D and a limited ground game 123yds on 44 attempts, did the heavy lifting. Such luck awaits in Foxboro?  Last year, Ostweiler's Broncos beat Brady, these Texans are not last years Broncos. Week 3 in Foxboro, NE 27 HOU ZERO with 3 TO's.

The Minutemen held their ground 98 vs 104; winning in the air 279 vs 181 yet, TOP HOU 33 - 27. In a sloppy game with six TO's, the Pats spotted the Texans 13 points and still barely covered.

With 12 mins remaining a one score game 24-16, after which the Texans decided to give back 2 of their TOM advantage.  A team taking advantage of TOM (not Brady), would have eaten the Pats alive.

#4 GB Packers 34 @ #1 DAL Cowboys 31

Spread DAL -4.5 OU 52 - our pick DAL -4.5 ATS and SU. ATS 4-3 SU 5-2

Last week: Week 6 the Pokes clubbed the Pack like a harp seal on the tundra 30-16 with 233 pass and 191 rushing yds as the Packers also lost TOM 4-2.

This time, the Packers did not lose the TOM battle. Jerry's Kids started slow and Mr. Rodger's gang jumped all over them, 8 mins prior to the half it was 21-3. Yet, the Poke's managed to pull even 28-28 with 4 min. remaining.

The box score reads like a dead heat, equal advantages as expected, Jerry's Kid's on the ground 24-138, Mr. Rodgers Packers in the air 28-385. In the end it was he who held the rock last. The Dirty Birds await.

#3 PIT Steelers 18 @ #2 KC Chiefs 16

Spread KC -2 OU 44.5 - our pick PIT +2 ATS and SU. ATS 5-3 SU 6-2

Last week, Big Ben 2 ints on only 18 passing attempts. Since Week 11 KC defense has been porous, especially against the run. Chef's Coach Reid and QB Smith do well during the regular season, but this is money time where they don't do so well.

This week Big Ben had only one pick, on a deflection as PIT won TOM +1.  The Riveters dominated 34-26 TOP, TOM +1, 3DC 7-15 vs 2-9, Total yds 389 vs 227 and 171 vs 61 on the ground.  The final score was deceivingly close in this yawner.

The Chef's D was valiant in bending but not breaking.  PIT could not close on offense and settled for a playoff record six FG's.  In the end, Reid's conservative playbook and Smith's inability in the clutch did the Chefs in. Beantown awaits.

More to come with our predictions....
