NO(+1) 14@CHI 39: Our pick NO +1 and to WIN

"The Bears may be able to run the ball if the Saint road run D shows up... the Saints run game has improved, how will they fair vs a stout Bear run D?"

Asked and answered: Net rushing yds CHI 196 vs NO 56. TOP CHI 35 vs 25 minutes. NO outpassed 319 vs 144, outgained 375 vs 340 and held CHI to 3 of 16 3rd downs & 1 of 3 goal to goal conversions.

The Saints managed to dig an early 16-0 hole, climbed out 16-14 with 2 quick TD's, and had the Bears seemingly stunned and on the ropes with 5:30 left in Q3, having stopped them on 4 straight possessions.

Having abandoned the running game (12 atts), the Saints elected to pass twice from their own 5 yd line. On 2nd down, intentional grounding in the Saint end zone led to a safety.

This was the beginning of the end for the Big Easy as they fell back in the hole and helped Da Bears bury them with the safety, 5 TO's and a missed FG.

Da Bears played on a shortened field, scoring 23 points on drives starting from the Saints 36, 30, 49, 26 & 30 yd lines respectively.

Da Bears controlled the ball in Q4 11:21, scoring 23 unanswered points, forcing 4 fumbles, 1 int, 3 sacks, a safety and 7 penalties; while giving up no sacks, 1 penalty and 1 fumble.

Moral of the story: Sloppy play, lacking ball control and a -4 turnover ratio does not lead to the Super Bowl. Question: Will Da Bears defense, which is giving up yardard like a sieve, continue to be blessed with turnovers against the Colts?

X NE 34@IND(-3) 38: Our pick IND to cover -3 and WIN

"The Pats D is giving up yardage like a sieve... ... given the result of the last 2 meetings in NE, and the opposite direction that both defenses are going in, the 3rd time is a charm."

And it was, in an epic game of firsts which saw TD's scored by 2 offensive linemen, 1 defensive lineman and an 18 point deficit overcome.

Each team had 1 TO as the Pats got an 39 yd INT return for a TD, and the Pats final drive was ended on an INT. Both teams fumbled into their opponents end zone and recovered for TD's.

Last week the Patriots were handed the game and delivered. This week, their opportunistic ways continued as 2 critical 4th down conversions led to 14 points and Manning obliged them with a 39 yd INT ret for a TD.

The Pats seemed well on their way to Miami building a 21-3 lead with 9:30 left before the half while holding the Colts at that point to only 65 yards. Thats when the Colts woke up and dominated the games final 35 minutes.

During which, the Colt offensive was virtually unstoppable racking up 390 yds while scoring 35 pts on 6 of 8 possessions. The Colt defense also turned it up a notch holding the Patriots to 8 yds rushing and 13 points on a shortened field.

In the 2nd half, the Pats managed only one TD after an 80 yd KO return and 2 FG's after taking possession at their own 46 and the Colt 43 respectively.

Colts 1st downs 32 vs 17, net yds 455 vs 319 yds, 8 of 15 3rd downs coverted, 125 vs 93 rushing yds, 330 vs 226 passing yds. 8 Patriot penalties vs 4 for the Colts did not help NE's cause.

In the last 35 minutes, TOP Colts 22 vs 13. Sometimes the best defense is a great offense as the Patriots pourous defense was exposed by the Colts explosive offense.

Question: Will the Colts D keep Da Bears rushing game in check, while the offense holds onto the ball and shreads Da Bears pourous defense?
