Burn one, have a drink, or both, your going to need it.... this Bitcoin digital currency thing has jarred my enfeebled mind.
I now recollect a long lost memory, oh the irony, oh the pain William, the pain.... But, I digress....
For legal reasons, we shall refer to the quasi governmental agency referenced herein as the LDS or Letter Delivery Service, you know who they are.
Ladies and gentlemen, the story you are about to read is true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I don't work here. I'm a consultant. Around 20 years ago, circa 1994-96...
we were working the LDS day watch out of Engagement Management Division. My partner's Adam Hujanen. The boss is Jim Stankowitz, Chief of Consulting Services.

All we know are the facts, ma'am, it was cold near Plaza L'Enfant in DC, standing in front of the US LDS IT brain farts, er trust...
advising them, because that's what consultants do... You need to develop four abilities which will function for your CUSTOMERS VIA INTERNET...
1. Sell and print postage stamps.
2. Track and trace priority service shipments.
3. Provision CA (certificate authority) services for email and electronic documents.
4. Based on #3 provision electronic bill payment services in local LDS DU's (delivery units) and via the burgeoning internet.
#3 and #4 was the BIG kahuna... countless BILLIONS in future revenue handed to these letter, bulk and parcel delivery types on a silver platter, WAY AHEAD of the curve.
I.e. an email with a CA "stamp" or digital certificate from a trusted 3rd party (quasi govermental authority) could be used for proof of service, legal documentation and digital payment services.
Just like submitting a letter, bill or payment IN A SEALED ENVELOPE with an old school LDS postage date mark.
In fact, LDS could also start accepting and processing payments for bills, utility, phone, credit card, mortgage etc.
Foreign LDS services including the French and Italians have taken bill payments at their delivery units for years.
But, noooooo.... seeing the forest for the trees was just too easy, working with these guys, was like force feeding a colic child.
