From sundown on Friday 29th till sundown Saturday the 30th, marked the annual celebration where Iraqi Shiite Muslims take part in a traditional mourning event to mark the killing of Imam Hussein in 680AD.
Imam Hussein’s death was part of a dispute over who should succeed the Prophet Mohammed, which eventually developed into a bitter schism between the Sunni and Shiite branches of Islam.

What are the odds of the worst mass shooting in recent US history occurring the day after that celebration? In the big scheme of things, probably not so much, one would hope.

Last week terrorist videos calling for attacks were posted featuring multiple destinations including Las Vegas.
