COVID 19: Everything's Jim Dandy?

We've Nattered about crowded environments, transmission, seasonal flu numbers, mortality rates, imagined vs real, the backdraft of draconian measures, predicted  "superspreader" events, pigs in a poke, monetary policy, preexisting conditions, a lack of global leadership, social habits, cultures, mutation...

second hand stupidity, unknown known's, things that seemingly come out of the blue, a collective tabula rasa, all things The Prisoner, forgetful Memoriams, and equanimity for Emmett, all of which have "conspired" in many ways to allow a mischievous Jinn out of it's bottle. Unlike others, this was not to infer that COVID19 is much ado about nothing.

In tonight's offering gifts were exchanged and promises made, followed by material and anticipatory breaches a plenty. Yet, with multiple failures to fulfill and consequences of such on full display, everything's Jim Dandy? And now picking up where Equanimity For Emmett Till? left off...
Bombs, explosions and fallout are not the only tools of conquest.  Much simpler and effective weapons are thoughts, attitudes and biases. Things that are only found in the minds of men, ignorance, hate and prejudices are WMD's which can destroy and kill. Thoughtless fear based scapegoating and racism has a fallout all of its own for society, the children and the yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things are not relics confined to a long time ago in a land far away.
Jim Dandy - informal, North American - adjective: fine, outstanding, or excellent.
noun: an excellent or notable person or thing. Whatever it was, it was a really good whatever it was.

Alex, let's try THE "SOCIAL" NETWORK for $1000. Trebek: Compound question. This Swiss-French writer's 1762 political "covenant",  became synonymous for an implicit agreement in which the individual surrenders liberty in return for protection.
Meanwhile, while everyone has been looking the other way, COVID19 and death have not taken a holiday. Since the "grand reopening" amidst a May 25th low, deaths spiked with cases hitting a new peak.
Wear a mask in public? A German study cites that mandatory facemasks reduce spread by 40 to 60%. We are focused on NEW cases tracking the more stable D614G variants global rise since March. In the US, 05/11 was the end of wave 1, followed by grand "reopening" 05/15, M-day celebrations 05/25, "freedom" fighter protests, and racism, brutality, social injustice protests. With that in mind, both global and US numbers appear to be headed up into a 2nd wave, the magnitude and consequence of which TBD by how much events since 05/15 amplify further spread.
Above, click on a chart courtesy of Jens Nordvig's Exante Data detailing new case growth state by state. Speaking of states of mind, this is not Minneapolis police first in custody death tied to officers kneeling on a persons neck. In 2010, David Smith a 28 year old mentally ill man died while under prone restraint for 4 minutes rather than 8:46.  After that complete failure of humanity, the city paid out $3M in a civil suit and there were supposed to be mandated changes in policy, training and procedure which never occurred. Everything's Jim Dandy?

Alex, let's try SIGNIFICANT OLD BOOKS for $2000.  Trebek: Compound question. This famous political "covenant" which gave advice on how to recover liberty, is said to have inspired the leaders of the French revolution, and made this famous claim.

An elderly Salt Lake City veteran with a cane was assaulted by police?  As always, it only gets better... after New York Governor Cuomo watched this video of a peacefully protesting 75 year old man being assaulted by Buffalo police, what came to his mind?
"People have seen Mr. Floyd's murder. They're watching what's going on, on the streets, every day and they're saying enough is enough... you see that video, and it disturbs your basic sense of decency and humanity... Why was that necessary? Where was the threat? Older gentleman... And then you just walk by the person when you see blood coming from his head. And police officers walk by. It's just fundamentally offensive, and frightening. It's just frightening.  You say, like who are we? How did we get to this place?..  You say, where are we?"
Meanwhile, after watching the same video, the current inhabitant of the EO tweeted what came to his mind.
Buffalo protester shoved by Police could be an ANTIFA provocateur. 75 year old Martin Gugino was pushed away after appearing to scan police communications in order to black out the equipment. @OANN I watched, he fell harder than was pushed. Was aiming scanner. Could be a set up?
A stark contrast is those two reactions? Cuomo already summed it up: disturbs your basic sense of decency and humanity... is fundamentally offensive and frightening... who are we? How did we get to this place?  Where are we?  Enough is enough.  Everything's Jim Dandy?

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum. ... In Mr. Kaepernick: Taking A Knee? and Kneeling To Pray? we Nattered about racist foundations, economic motives, promises, blind faith, a rigged system, and those who have the stones to take a patriotic and penitent position on such.
This country was founded by a small group of rich crackers who owned a bunch of Django's... All persons are created equal - and yet, in their 1857 Dred Scott decision, SCOTUS decided that black people were property and therefore had no rights?  That divisive, politically motivated and egregious error in jurisprudence led to the civil war.
Flash back... On 09/25/17, Jerry Jones knelt with the Dallas Cowboys during the national anthem while NFL Commissioner Goodell tweeted, "A great show of unity."  On 10/10/17 the EO tweeted "Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country? Change tax law!" Subsequent the NFL imposed bans and fines for kneeling.

Flash forward... after three years of openly blackballing a penitent man, Colin Kaepernick for a DWB (not driving while, dissenting while) Goodell professed much like Drew Brees, and his subsequent walk back, he did not understand what players kneeling was about, and now realizes that these peaceful protests were not a disrespect to the flag or country. Sorry, we cannot ROGER that lip service which is not remotely believable, nor understand how anyone (including all 32 owners, GM's, coaches and many players) could remain that ignorant for so long. We'll come back to the latter...

We're not the only one who thinks so, as Spike Lee agrees with us. As amply demonstrated by the NFL's 2017 embrace then thrown to the curb like trash treatment, words are cheap and actions speak louder.  Much like "anyway the wind blows" Goodell, who gets No Game Balls from us, and seems to still be looking under his desk for a pair, Jerry Jones best retake the position, because only a penitent man will pass. Everything's Jim Dandy?

Now lets Natter about the bastion of high speed constant left turn nonsense, which since it's inception 72 years ago has shamelessly promoted Confederate flag "innocuousness". Nascar, is banning the South's "rebel" symbol?  Being from misery applies, "show me" and we'll believe it when we see it. To the NFL and NASCAR re: woefully reticent "remedies" and attempts to make amends, being guilty of enablement and perpetuation of racist policies, that's mighty WHITE of you.  Everything's Jim Dandy? How bout Rebel spirit?

In destroying irreplaceable antiquities ISIS serves as a modern day example of those who would cleanse or purge all reminders of the past, in order to install their revisionist history and indoctrination.  As conquering armies usually instill their will, the existence and public display of old guard symbols is historically unusual, particularly when armies who fought to promote racist or genocidal policies are defeated on their own soil viz. there are no public statues of Hitler in Germany.  Written words such as Tom Sawyer and Mein Kampf should never be redacted to conform to revisionist history. All Confederate rebel flags, and state flags based upon such (Georgia and Mississippi in particular), should be banned. However, written materials and civil war martyr and veteran monuments should never be destroyed.

Much like holocaust museums, reminders of those who committed treason in the name of preserving chattel slavery, and have committed heinous acts against society, should only be displayed inside museums of tolerance. In that manner, future generations will never forget, cannot fall prey to revisionist history, nor make the same mistakes. In the case at hand, promoting civil war romanticism and Jim Dandy mentality via clinging to the pacifier of good old boy "rebel" spirit, has kept unknown known's alive, allowed tacit racism to fester, with both superseding the need for respect and deep rooted societal changes.  Santayana was right, those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat their historical mistakes, over and over again.  Everything's Jim Dandy? Moving West...

Above, Kimberly Jones in How Can We Win? from David Jones Media makes a statement about a rigged game in no uncertain terms.

If you steal or if I steal then the person who is the authority comes in and they fix the situation.  But the person who fixes the situation is killing us so the social contract is broken... You broke the contract when you killed us in the streets and didn't give a fuck.  You broke the contract when for 400 years we played your game and built your wealth. You broke the contract when we built our wealth again on our own by our bootstraps in Tulsa [Greenwood] and you dropped bombs on us. When we built it in Rosewood [Florida] and you came in and you slaughtered us. You broke the contract so fuck your Target fuck your Hall of Fame, far as I'm concerned they can burn this bitch to the ground and it still wouldn't be enough and they are lucky that what black people are looking for is equality and not revenge.

In this series we've Nattered about Unknown Knowns? or cognitively what we do not like to know, and at the beginning about the "cult-ure" for prescient reasons...
"it's a cult-ure, it's a mindset" - Same Bat Channel?
Coming full circle in our theme and apropos title, we think... In the 1840's minstrels, which combined drama, comedy, song and dance were the entertainment form of the day. One of the most popular was the supposed tale of a vain African American man, "Dandy Jim, Ob (Of - From) Caroline", here's a sample from the "cult-ure" of the day...

Dar's dandy niggers in each place
Wid beefstake lips dat wink wid grace
But none among the gals can shine
Like Dandy Jim ob Caroline
All colored virgins tell me oh!
I'se de best lookin nigger in the country oh!
I look'd in the glass an found it so!
Just as the virgins tell me oh!

Dandy Jim, and other minstrel songs such as can be found in Christy's Nigga Songster were routinely sung in public theatre's, town halls, saloons and family parlors across the Nation.  Popular repetition of negative depictions serve to promote misconceptions and miseducation about people of color, which reinforce racial stereotypes and prejudice toward African Americans. What many patriots forget...
know that the first American to shed blood in the revolution that freed his country from British oppression was a black seaman named Crispus Attucks.” - MLK
Mr. Attucks, a victim of the Boston Massacre was multiracial and of the Wampanoag Indian tribe. Earlier we mentioned founding fathers who along with their FOB predecessor's and successor's have warred, violated treaties with, committed genocide against and stole the land of the brave, from the native American peoples. Does anyone reading this wish to give up some freedom to join a society and play by the rules, so you and it's minorities can be "protected" and "served" as such?

Answering Trebek's 1st query: What is The Social Contract? and Who is Jean-Jacques Rousseau?

As promised we come back to ignorance which is the mother that begets all evils. Witness an unholy trinity of government, corporate and monetary policies based in false doctrine and ignorance. Point in fact, actions which can only be interpreted as a willful and knowing perpetuation of an everything's Jim Dandy "cult-ure".

Answering Trebek's 2nd query: What is The Social Contract?  and What is  "Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains".

If we all wish to unshackle, nothing short of deep systemic, societal and structural changes are necessary. We leave you with tonight's theme song...

Be well, more to come, stay tuned, no flippin.
