NFL Update Pre Week 17

AFC

Seeds 1, 2 & 5 are locked up. The 3 & 4 seeds could switch with a New England victory over Miami and Cincy loss at KC. Somehow we feel New England would rather not see Pittsburgh, who should win at home against Detroit and take the 6 seed, thus elminating KC.

1. Indy
2. Denver
3. Cincy
4. New England
5. Jacksonville
6. Pittsburgh

The Patriot front seven is back as is the running game and the last few weeks they have feasted on lesser opponents, the NY Jets, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, with Tampax Bay thrown in.

These are neither contenders nor juggernauts. Denver or Indy on the road will be formidable. Bellichik could X and O his way to a divisional playoff upset and get to the title game.

But, unless the Patriots discover a healthy secondary that can pass cover, we do not see them advancing after winning at home against Jacksonville. We reserve judgement and are not counting them down and out.

Pittsburgh being on a roll, could upset Cincy, but neither will advance past Denver or Indy.

The AFC title game should be Denver at Indy, and although Indy has bludgeoned Denver the last two playoff years at Indy, we would not preclude Denver's chances after witnessing what San Diego did at Indy.

NFC

Seeds 1 & 2 are locked up. Tampa Bay should win at home against New Orleans to lock up the 3 seed, likewise for the NY Giants at Oakland to lock up the 4 seed.

Washington should win at Philly to lock up either the 5 or 6 seed. The surprise will be Carolina losing at Atlanta, thus elminating themselves after being 10-4 and allowing Dallas with a home victory over St. Louis to capture the 6 seed.

Should Carolina win they would be the 5 seed and Dallas is out.

1. Seattle
2. Chicago
3. Tampa Bay
4. New York Giants
5. Washington
6. Dallas

Tampa, New York, Washington, Carolina & Dallas are all a field goal apart depending on who is at home. Seattle will host one of these teams and probably squeak by.

Meanwhile, with the weather, newly found offense and especially that defense, NO ONE will win in Chicago. PERIOD.

Da Bears will be in the NFC Title game, which at Seattle they could win, and in Chicago they would certainly win.

The one thing about these playoffs that we really like is Da Bears to at least be playing in the NFC title game and Super Bowl.
