Bad Weather and Locusts
Disappointing same store sales, blame it on the locusts...
66% of retailers missed with the slowest growth in 11 months... Higher than expected: Kohl's +4.4%, Target +5.7%, Nordstrom +9.1%, Saks +25%.
Lower than expected: WalMart +0.9%, Federated +1.2%, Limited Brands +3%, Costco +4%, J.C. Penney -0.2%, Gap -4%, Pier 1 -8.4%.
Retailers failing to make the number blamed the coldest February since 1979. Yet, in January, they claimed that frigid temperatures boosted sales.
I guess January's mix of cold temperatures and winter storms chased shoppers out of the house and into the malls...
while February's mix included perhaps... swarming locusts... yeah that's the ticket... which kept the shoppers at home. Sounds realistic eh? Right, got it, thanks...
