New Age Old School Part 2

Over at a financial forum...

P - Twitter Future - "when we were kids – there wasn't anything else to do."  Yeah, we MADE things happen and that's the difference.

The system can stick that back-slash where the techs don't shine.  I originally posted this in 2005, and it still holds firm.  I Nattered on Oct 6th in this forum as did Rookie/Burrben and P.

"No wonder Millennial's just sit at home and play with their phones – who can afford to go out and have fun?"  Here is a another prime example of how this generation is SO connected, and yet COMPLETELY disconnected. When I would visit my father in laws, on a beautiful Sat afternoon, his 2nd gen progeny (still living at home) could be found in his darkened bedroom festooned in online gaming.  I would stealthy pry the door open, approach his headphone wearing skull and give him a major Gibbs or kick the chair out from underneath him.

WTF are you doing here on a day like this? What the hell did you do last night? Oh I was here till 4AM gaming with my bros. In my day, a guy who hung out at the mall or coffee shop all night was "limp", so what are you? Nothing better to do?  WTH?

Plenty to do and get into in my day and today. Out and about, surfin, crusin, chasin babes, you name it. And if required, you MAKE your own FUN, little or no money required, just imagination.  This connected generation is held hostage by parents who THINK that since it's better to have the kid "here" and under control that all is well and for the better.
The resulting sense of entitlement (from overparenting, because it all starts at HOME) along with the pervasive escaping of responsibility, no one takes ownership for their crap, is at the root of the "tragedy of the commons" that we are suffering in this day and age.

Despite the attempts to dumb down, there are still some good teachers out there. Instead of a back-slash, try a back-lash, man up and take control of these new connectivity issues, just install one of these.  Out.
