Here's some more secondary stupidity which gets a deserved beat down: enabling 5G technology, potential treatment over touted as "cure" (Hydroxychloroquine), over "Doctored" response time line, more mass cremation in China, who somehow stole the virus from Canada? Along all those lines...
Some THING other than COVID19 has been spreading, in the form of a Facebook viral message and chain email which showed up in my inbox from a well intentioned relative. Hidden inside this THING is some seemingly innocuous advice which reeks of authoritative reference and sounds official: "STANFORD HOSPITAL BOARD INTERNAL MESSAGE". Indeed, much like the shape shifting antagonist in Carpenter's 1982 remake this THING is not what it seems. Upon receipt our initial reaction was a famous line straight out of the film, hence our apropos, we think, acronym title. Our response follows [italicized]...
I hope you have not forwarded that piece of tripe to anyone else. Since I am the man I was five years ago, let's take a flamethrower to this THING. Hold your breath as a test? does'nt like the sun? After 10 ft is no longer air borne? will give you a sore throat? Warm water is effective against THE THING? I could go on... ALL DEAD WRONG which one could be if they followed this THINGS non science based advice. Blindly passing on sh*t without fact checking it first? One at least checks their feet after picking or butt after wiping? Spreading disinformation is a disservice, and in this case a dangerous one.
When the urge to parrot strikes, do friends, family and yourself, a real big favor. If one has good intentions but does not exactly understand how something works, exert some due diligence. Before blindly passing the THING on like the common cold or influenza virus, at least give it a proper sniff test prior to hitting send. To confirm what was painfully obvious to us, we copied "STANFORD HOSPITAL BOARD INTERNAL MESSAGE" and "coronavirus" into a search engine. It took less time than to stick a hot needle into a petri dish of blood, to verify the THINGS BS level which was off the manure saturation scale.
I don't care if one gets their info from the CVS Chief Medical Officer, who disturbingly passed along a company email which made many of the same false claims, including that the virus could be killed by drinking warm water.
