The Circus is in Town

Come one, come all, step right up to the big top, its the greatest show on earth...Here yee, here yee, read all about it...

Obfuscation: darkening or obscuring the sight of something. Bewilderment: confusion resulting from failure to understand. Mystification: the activity of obscuring people's understanding, leaving them baffled or bewildered ...

The 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy. - Alex Carey

Pablum for the masses... In recent years, while appealing to the publics tabloid mentality, the corporate controlled media has attempted to mesmerize (the word is taken from Franz Anton Mesmer, an 18th century con artist) the public with sensationalism.

Death watches... The Pope (passed), Terry Schiavo (passed) and Prince Rainier of Monaco (clinging to life) The media focus has been on the "cause" du jour and the spectacle of "are they dead yet?", rather than on the person and the celebration of life and achievement.

I'm so glad I quit the human race a long time ago, because it's a freak show. I always say when you're born into this world, you get a ticket for the freak show. And if you're born in America, you get in the front row. - George Carlin

Trials... Nuremberg, Scripps Monkey, Chicago 7, My Lai Massacre and Mississippi Burning, those were important trials. Instead we get murderers, serial killers, corporate miscreants and freaks. O.J. Simpson (bloody Bruno Magli's, acquitted, OJ is still looking on the back nine for the "real" killers). Robert Blake (interviewed 2 hit men, opted for DIY, acquitted). Scott Peterson (gone fishing, guilty, death sentence). Bernie Ebbers (fraud at Worldcom, jury's not out, should get 40 years). Paul Bernardo & Karla Homolka (serial rapists & killers, guilty, no death penalty in Canada). Michael Jackson (had slumber parties with kids, jury's not out, probable acquittal on sex charges).

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. - Albert Einstein

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain... Meanwhile, back in Kansas, events that impact our daily lives and futures, are made to sit in the back of the corporate controlled medias "news" bus. Just to name a few, from the national level; supreme court rulings, legislative changes, political turmoil, conflicts of interest and educational system changes; from the global level: genocide, war, famine, human rights violations, corporate collusion, ecological pollution and medical research efforts.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. - Martin Luther King

Stupid is as stupid does... When it comes to important, detail oriented information, the majority is so mentally poor, bewildered and confused they can't even pay attention. They would rather be entertained than informed, titillation over education. Case in point: In a poll taken by NBC last year, Americans voted the O.J. Simpson murder trial as "the trial of the century," beating out the second-place Nuremberg trial of major Nazi war criminals. How apathetic is that?

Three minutes thought would suffice to find this out; but thought is irksome and three minutes is a long time. - A.E. Houseman

The devil is in the details... The dumbed down, frenetic paced society in which we live engenders adult ADD. Everyone wants sound bytes, the elevator pitch and the fast easy way out; parents, teachers, coach's, judges, legislators, and executives, public and private. Unfortunately, the world by its nature, doesn't work that way. Abrogation by avoidance and ignorance by apathy are not the answer.

Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details. Knowledge is not intelligence. In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected. Change alone is unchanging. The same road goes both up and down. The beginning of a circle is also its end. Not I, but the world says it: all is one. And yet everything comes in season. - Heraklietos of Ephesus
