The Name of the Game was a ground breaking series that dealt directly with the social and political turbulence of the late 1960s. The pilot aired in 1966 and the series ran 1968 - 1971.

The depiction of social evils, injustice, moral and political corruption had a vivid truthfulness rare in television during this period, and unheard of in today's "pablum for the masses" television.

The weekly anthology starred Gene Barry, Tony Franciosa and Robert Stack as enlightened professionals who used the power of their media conglomerate positions to right injustice and defend the powerless. At the time, the per episode cost of $400,000 made it the most expensive show in TV history.
