Super Bowl LIII

Sunday 18:30 EST CBS O/U 56.5
Highlights
NE 13 vs 3 LAR
PICK: LAR +3 LOCK

"With fairly equal passing attacks, a nod to Tom Terrific's performance levels and experience, the team that holds the rock, controls the clock and runs best will win."
The Patriots dominated the ground with 154 yards rushing on 34 carries and controlled the game. All Patriots 1st Downs 22-14;  TOP 33-27 mins; Total yards 407 - 260. In summary, the Patriots and Ram defenses showed up while the Ram offense's bus got lost in traffic and translation with 198 yards passing and 62 rushing.
Both Bolts and Chefs fell in early holes, got pushed out of their game plan, and neither exploited this. Combining for 60yds on 22 carries both fell prey to the 20 carry per game minimum maxim...
Those who choose to ignore this maxim, or cannot execute were a collective 11-106-1 or 97% losers.
Thus far in the playoffs a collective 0-6.  Will McVay's Rams attempt to exploit the Minutemen's untapped in the playoffs "Achilles Heel"?
Despite the Rams attempts to fall into an early hole, the Patriots obliged with a drive killing Q1 interception, missed FG and stop on downs, which kept the Rams within spitting distance until the last minute.  All this early turnover advantage would be for naught as the Rams later gave back both the interception and missed FG.

For some strange reason, the Rams opted not to take advantage of said defensive weakness. A paltry 62 yards on 18 carries extended the 20 minimum carry maxim's streak to 0-7 in this years playoffs.

From the Rams perspective, Sunday's debacle witnessed some of the least imaginative offensive play calling in recent memory.  While being sacked four times, Goff was oft confused, held the ball far too long, missed targets and exercised poor judgment.  More on said judgment later.

A prime example...(At 7:54) A wide open Cooks was left standing in the back of the end zone waiting for what should have been a sure TD with 3:42 remaining in the 3rd.

(At 11:20) Cooks drop of a another sure TD pass at 4:30 remaining in the 4th, was typical of the Rams inability to execute, and a harbinger of things to come.

(At 11:35) On the very next play, Goff's ill advised goal line jump ball sealed the Rams fate.
Young Goff's exhibition in poor passing decisions was exemplified by oft not reading the open man crossing in front of him, or standing in the end zone waving, and throwing into crowded multiple coverage.  Meanwhile, Old Man Brady did what it takes...
Teams that play zone against Brady, play with fire, get torched and of late, the Rams have employed zone. Will the Son of Bum revert to man press for Donald and Co. to harass The Pharoah? If latter day Philips watched the last NE road loss, in which they were held to 10 pts, he knows the formula to keep the Pharoah from getting it up.
On most third downs, opt for 2 man coverage to bracket Gronk and double team.  The 2 safeties should have 8-10yds cushion off the line, but play aggressively downhill.  One S should bracket Gronk, to be matched by a man under. The other high S should be kept free to double team routes [Edelman] between the numbers.
In other words, dictate the terms and dare Brady to do what older QB's who have lost a step and some arm strength find difficult to do, get it up and fast. viz. make him throw deep and outside, while potentially forcing him to his 2nd or 3rd read.
The above defensive strategy, which the Steeler's employed in defeating the Patriots 17-10 in Week 15, was apparently not obvious nor available to Ram coaching nor secondary.

Brady was sacked once while completing 21-35 for 262 yards, with Gronk targeted 7 times, yielding 6 receptions and 87 yards.  Julian Edelman was targeted 12 times, yielding 10 receptions, 141 yards and a SB MVP.

The half time score of 3-0 was the 2nd lowest in SB history behind SB IX PIT 2 - MIN 0. The Rams output of 3 total points matched the SB VI low DAL 24 - MIA 3.  On their fateful Sunday date with Doomsday, the young Dolphins learned a valuable lesson, will McVay's Rams?

Said SB VI was the first of three consecutive appearances by the Dolphins, SB VII capped the perfect season, and SB VIII brought the definition of a team for the ages, back to back SB victories.

At the end of the day, good judgment is a product of experience, and most experience is gained through bad judgment.

One can have all the book smarts or street experience in the world. To be effective, said genius must be complimented by common sense, wisdom and insight.

To take it to the next level, wisdom is ability to achieve through common sense practical application of said judgment and life experience.  Further, insight is the ability to know the underlying truth.

Sunday we bore witness at the next level with Belichick's wisdom and insight. As in a record ninth appearance, the experienced Pharaoh delivered his people to the promised land for a record sixth time.
