Texas Instruments, #2 maker of semiconductors that run mobile phones, Q1 profit +28%; sales +2.5%;

but missed estimates and gave lowered forward guidance on concern that a U.S. economic slowdown will curb mobile-phone sales.

The company said its stockpile of unsold chips rose 11% from the end of last year.

CEO Rich Templeton: "Given uncertainty in the near-term economy, we have become more conservative with our outlook for the second quarter."
