The Nasdaq measures over 3200 domestic and non U.S. based common stocks listed on The Nasdaq Stock Market. Like the SP500, the Nasdaq is market cap weighted. Every stock in the index is represented in proportion to its market capitalization (the value of the total shares outstanding). As a result, larger companies have more influence on the performance of the index.
